When the Spouse is the 1st to Notice
In the households we see, the first accurate report rarely comes from HR, a physician, or a friend at the club. It comes from the person who hears the garage at 12:10 a.m. and already knows what the next forty minutes will look like.
Spouses notice quantity before anyone else does. They notice the change in sleep. They notice the version of their partner that appears only after a certain kind of evening. They notice the way a teenager has started scanning the room. They notice that they have become logistics, security, and public relations for a life that still looks excellent on paper.
They also notice that saying it out loud has a cost.
